Conversion of retail building into 14nr apartments and 1nr small retail unit

There were extreme difficulties with the site.  Social context, crime, lack of amenity, noise, air quality and constructional issues had halted a previous application, and this had never been pursued.

The overriding challenge was to create enough daylight into these apartments due to the proximity of the surrounding buildings. Creating a lightwell on one side of the building provided the solution, also adding the benefit of courtyards to the ground floor apartments.

The site comprised a Grade II Listed Georgian shop, with a large, brick clad, industrial warehouse behind. We were appointed to convert the entire building into 14nr apartments and 1nr smaller retail unit.
